Abstract


Dental implants are a highly predictable treatment modality. Maintaining sufficient alveolar ridge width and height is essential for successful rehabilitation in partially or fully edentulous patients. Alveolar ridge preservation (ARP), a bone augmentation technique, involves the application of graft materials to and coverage of the extraction socket with or without a barrier membrane or soft tissue coverage, at the time of extraction. ARP can safely reduce post-extraction bone resorption and simplify the implant treatment procedure in periodontally compromised teeth. In this case report, we describe a 69-year-old man in whom we performed ARP using deproteinized bovine bone mineral with 10% collagen and 2 layers of a resorbable non-cross-linked collagen membrane for coverage. The patient underwent implant surgery after 11 months of uneventful healing, with simple guided bone regeneration. This report highlights that delayed implantation with ARP can be used successfully in periodontally compromised mandibular molars.
